The meeting was initiated by Estonia and co-sponsored by UN Security Council members the United States and United Kingdom, as well as Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Ukraine.

Friday 8 May marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War on European soil.
At 17.00 Estonian time (10.00 in New York), as part of its UN Security Council Presidency, Estonia is organising a major international discussion to remember this anniversary. This is a high-level informal Security Council meeting which is open to other UN member states.
The event can be watched on the Foreign Ministry’s YouTube and Facebook channels and on the website of the Ministry and Estonia’s Permanent Representation to the UN.
